Mackenzie Health, Division of Nephrology

Sept 2019 – Present

As an attending physician at Mackenzie Health, Dr. Thomson is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both outpatient and inpatient nephrology patients. His focus includes managing chronic kidney disease (CKD) and related nephrology conditions, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes in an evolving healthcare landscape.

Queen’s University, Division of Nephrology

July 2015 – Present

Dr. Thomson has held several key roles at Queen’s University, where he serves as an attending physician in both nephrology and internal medicine. His leadership includes serving on the Resident Program Committees for Nephrology and Internal Medicine and acting as the Competency Based Medical Education Advisor for these specialties. In his role as Medical Director for Home Dialysis from August 2015 to September 2019, Dr. Thomson led remarkable growth in the program, achieving the second-fastest growth rate in Ontario with a 289% increase in size over three years. His efforts to improve patient care included developing a Quality Improvement Initiative that reduced peritoneal dialysis (PD) peritonitis rates by 45%. He has also served as a site investigator for three multicenter trials: CONNECT, ACHIEVE, and PDOPPS. Dr. Thomson was promoted from Assistant to Associate Professor in his first contract cycle in July 2018.

Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) Medical School, Gaza City

Feb 2013 – Present

Since 2013, Dr. Thomson has contributed to medical education in Gaza as an annual lecturer at the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) Medical School. He teaches the genitourinary block to pre-clinical year students and serves as a physical examination demonstrator and instructor for clinical-year medical students. His work in Gaza has focused on equipping students with the practical skills needed to excel in a challenging healthcare environment.

Western University, Division of Nephrology

July 2012 – June 2015

During his time at Western University, Dr. Thomson was an attending physician for outpatient CKD and general nephrology clinics, as well as inpatient internal medicine and nephrology. He played a key role in initiating a Monthly Refugee General Internal Medicine outpatient clinic at the London Intercommunity Health Centre, addressing the healthcare needs of refugee populations. His clinical responsibilities included managing complex nephrology cases and providing internal medicine care across various inpatient and outpatient settings.
